In A Compromised Position…??!!

The other day we were out shopping with Mummy. The weather was nice, no rains now for quite sometime.
We had had a good walk in a nearby field, chased a few lizards and squirrels and even a stray rabbit. We went over to say hello to a few buffaloes that were grazing around, obviously happy with the abundance of grass the heavy monsoon rains of the last 3 months had helped grow. They, however, were totally un-perturbed by our hearty greeting and continued ruminating after a cursory glance at us.
We were too happy and busy to be offended, though.

Finally, it was time to go home. The sun was on its way to the western horizon, casting a beautiful orange glow all around us. It was a perfect evening.

And then, suddenly, it happened!

The sky was overcast with menacing, dark clouds reminding us of the dementors from Harry Potter’s world. (But it was still hot and humid, and our souls weren’t being sucked out of our bodies, so it definitely couldn’t have been them!)
The clouds rumbled threateningly at a distance and it was only a matter of minutes before heavy rains reached us.
We rushed into the car and Mummy speeded home. It was fun…we raced against the rain which was following us just at a few metres distance.

Now, being water-loving Labradogs, we aren’t usually ruffled by rains.
But then, we had been out enjoying a beautiful weather and we weren’t in the mood to get wet now.
You see, the walk from our car-park to our front door, though not too long, was long enough to get us drenched to the bones if rains as heavy as that which was following us now, caught up!
Mummy floored the pedal, but unfortunately, nature won.

It was the heaviest rain of the season, the news told us the next day. A small rivulet that ran through the city, dry and dormant for years, had flooded the banks that evening.

We watched the rain for some time, sipping hot tea (read that-watching Mummy sipping hot tea!) with wheat biscuits.

But soon, the terrifying roar of the thunder got to us. That day we could fully appreciate how even the bravest of the brave could be ruffled by nature’s fury.

Daddy’s chair provided some comfort and under it, reassured by the soothing music Mummy’s stereo played , we soon fell asleep no longer afraid that the sky might fall on our heads.

When we woke up, the night sky was silent. And the stars sparkled and glittered with the promise of a dazzling, sunlit day ahead.

SKYWATCH

It has been raining persistently for over a month now, with the sun making intermittent, brief appearances tentatively. The curtains, the indoor plants, the cushions and everything around emit a weird musty smell from absorbing much more than their share of moisture.
The companies selling room-freshener sprays must be doing brisk business! They (we mean the sprays) do come in a variety of fragrances, Orchid, Jasmine and Lavender to name a few of our favourites and dispel the mildewed odour considerably well.

Apart from the muddy paw prints that soil our floor which we cannot help and which seems to distress mummy a great deal, we are unfazed by the rains.
We are Labradawgs and Labradawgs live for water, be it pouring from above, flowing with a roar, rising in a wave or collected in a pool.

Apart from the delights of playing in the rain soaked grass and chasing the myriad life-forms that the after-rain sunlight wakes to life, there are other pleasures the rains bring which serve as good blog-topics!

Daddy was only too glad to capture the changing hues of the morning sky for us. We hope they bring you as much joy as they did us.

SIGH! 5 days of Incessant Rain.....

Rain Rain Go Away,
Come Again Some Other Day,
Ginger and Buddy Wanna Go out and Play,
Oh! Rain Please Do Go Away....

(You'd think it is sunny outside from this picture, but it isn't. It's just camera tricks. It has been raining Garfieds and Beethovens and it is all Dark and Gloomy)

Come, ENJOY our Walk.....

Hey Guys! Did you see that? That referee was so, so unfair. What exactly was he doing there? Why couldn’t someone show him the replay like our cricket matches here? That was a valid goal!

Well Bookerman, all your efforts and practicing so much, even getting all embarrassed the other day because of football, came to nought. Slovenia equalled the US. We were rooting for USA. After all, we have so many furiends there and we don’t even know where Slovenia exactly is? We have to get Mummy to Google that.
We are hoping England, atleast, will win tonight. (We know where Algeria is. but we are supporting England)
But we have grrrt doubts Mummy will be up to cheer them on. She is already all sleepy eyed and groggy and drooping off. She has been having a very, very hectic time at work since yesterday. And she says this is going to continue tomorrow too...:( :( :( Some special camp or some such thing.

And then there is this football. We like Playing football rather than watching football. It eats away a large chunk of our blog-time from Mummy’s schedule.
Besides, that persistant, noisy bee buzzing all the time is not much fun when you are watching TV.

Did you notice? We didn’t even post our favourite ‘True Colours Thursday’ post yesterday.
No, Mummy did not forget this time. She just didn’t work hard enough to find Purple things.

Oh well, at least we are going on our walks and she is cooking yummy breakfast for us every morning. However, we have a sneaking suspicion she does that so we would gobble up our food fast and she won’t get late for work!
Whatever the reason, we are not complaining about THAT, Mummy!

We are glad you like our flowers, furiends. These Golmohar trees are practically everywhere in our country and we hardly pay much attention to them, except when we get those lovely blooms.
Infact, the seed pods grow so big, Mummy worries they might fall on us someday while we are in the garden and hurt us!!
Well! According to Daddy, Mummy is paranoid about everything around the two of us and constantly (read unnecessarily) worries we will get hurt!
Many of you were worried Buddy would get hurt in those rocks. You should have seen how happy that made Mummy!!!!
‘See, Mummies are the same everywhere’, she told Daddy jubilantly.
Daddy scoffed and made a funny face!!!!
But we know that won’t stop her from constantly checking between our toes to see if we got anything there, just in case!!

It is raining very heavily today. But we have here for you some pictures from a lovely walk, from yesterday evening.

Mummy tried hard to post a video here, but somehow blogger wouldn't let her upload one. So here are some other pictures she took.

That's Hardy Boy- our Doberman neighbour. He is a funny, happy-go-lucky sort of guy!

Biswas- our very sad, much mistreated (Labra-Indian Dog mixed) neighbour. Her pawrents NEVER EVER take her for walks. And they keep her tied, YES, tied for hours (and they have a large garden too). Poor girl, we really get rather fidgety when she keeps crying for hours sometimes. Mummy tried to talk to her mummy about it, but she was very rude and mean about it.

These lovely flowers are called Bouganvillea. Mummy could find the Orange, White and Pink varieties in our neighbourhood. They are usually grown as ornamental plants, hanging from walls, parapets in balconies or just out of hanging flower pots.

These vines form a lovely shape over the archway of one of our neighbour’s gates. Now, that structure is more rectangular than arched. Is it still called an archway or something else?? Some more flowers. We don't know what they are called. Nobody seems to know around here!

And here we are, at Mummy’s feet as she readies our story for you.

Hope she told it well.

A SPECIAL SATURDAY and a SAD MONDAY

Mummy and we have this arrangement. On a Saturday, we do something different from what we do the whole week. Like, we go out for a long evening walk to some place other than our usual trek route. To break the monotony, as Mummy puts it.

Yesterday however, Mummy and Daddy came back home much later than usual, all tired and ‘headachey’. We were very disappointed. 'There goes our special walk', we thought. We went and lay down, with the saddest look on our faces.

Those looks always win. Headache or no headache.
Mummy laughed and we knew we were going out after all!
‘Let’s go, Darlings’, was all we needed! And before she could get out of the door, we were at the gate!
We didn’t go any place far, just to the fields near our home. But it was a very special walk.

The temperatures were considerably down, the air smelt fresh, there was a lovely wind blowing. It was a perfect evening to run as much as you like without worrying about the heat.
We had real fun.
And then suddenly it happened! There was a beautiful orange glow in the sky that lit up everything around us. And in the distance, on the horizon, we saw the dark clouds approaching. Even as we watched, we saw a strange grey vertical shadow in the sky, moving towards us.

Mummy and Daddy seemed very excited to see it.
‘Look, Bud-Gin,that is the rain literally coming towards us!’
We hadn’t seen something like that before, but it looked very exciting!
Mummy felt really really disappointed that she didn’t have a camera with her to catch this lovely scene.
We don’t mind the rain. But the lightening and growling thunder is not something we like very much. We saw the flashes of lightening at a distance.

Now, whoever said ‘Light travels faster than sound didn’t have to know much Physics, did he?’ Even we know the angry growls can’t be far away when we see those flashes.
We jumped up into the car, ready to go back home. Mummy found that rather amusing, because normally we are not very keen to return from a walk.
As we reached our gates, the rain reached us.
We haven't deciphered why but Mummy behaves very funnily at any given opportunity to get wet in the rain! We cocked our heads and stared at her!
She kept calling for us to get down from the car. She was gladly getting wet, looking skywards, arms outstretched! We peered out of the open window and felt the drops on our noses. The rain was pretty heavy and cut into our fur.

No Mummy, we are not so very enthusiastic about the idea.
Mummy laughed. Sometimes we really crack her up, the way we resolutely put across our mind. On any given day, we'd rush her to open the car door so we can beat her at getting down from the car. And here we were, refusing to get down.
But then we just didn’t want to get wet.
Finally she got the idea and unlocked the front door. We both rushed in, with Daddy following suit.

We didn’t know there was something else waiting for us, something we enjoyed very much.
There were shopping bags for us to check out! So that is the reason Mummy and daddy came back late. And guess what they contained…?

NOMMIES and loads of stuff, JuSt for us!

(We were'nt about to pose for Ginger's kibble)

(OK, I see u got the flavour right. Meat and rice, just what I like)

(Aww Mummy, will u stop that please and give us some Nommies?)

(Daddy, PLEASE will u help?)

(Ah! Finally!)

(NOM NOM NOM!)

(Nomm NOMM NOM!)

Pee Ess: There has to be an after-effect to getting wet in that torrential rain, added to working overtime. Mummy had a splitting headache.
Not that she learns from her mistakes.
Result: We missed our Saturday post.

Sunday diary: Mummy went on a ‘clean-up the house’ spree.
Results:
1.The house smells flowery!
2. Mummy has that smug look on her face!
3. We missed our Sunday post too!

What can two Labra-Dawgs do?

We are very, very sorry to learn just sometime back that MAXDOG has left us. It is difficult to find words to say what you feel at times like these....

Max, though it is painful for us, we would like to tell you that we are glad you can no longer feel any earthly pain. We will always remember you.
